A striking semi-antique Turkish rug. It has an array of intruiging motifs, from birds in flight which symbolise good news, to boteh (paisley) which symbolise fertility. This rug is predominantly dyed with organic plant dyes but the neon pink is chemical dye. When this rug was made, chemical dye would have been very expensive and using it would have been a way for the female weaver to demonstrate her wealth to her peers.
This rug is in good condition with wear consistent with age and low pile
