A Persian Malayer with sophisticated motifs of traditional Malayer design. A rich red and brown field are harmonised perfectly by sand borders and motifs.  Abstract running water motifs run along the borders, symbolising purification, and traditional herati patterns feature throught.

Malayer is a village in North West Iran that is famed for producing small rugs and runners. Malayer rugs were made by Turkish Persian communities using a Turkish knotting technique. They contain some of the most beautiful and interesting motifs of all Persian rugs.

This rug is in excellent condition with even wear consistent with age and low pile.
